finally it snowed heavily last wednesday n dahlia was happy hahaha so was i. it has been freezing d whole month so might as well snow kan? we went out quite early to abbey field to take some photos. who knows this might be our last chance to take snow photos. everywhere was covered in white blanket so in summary, it's beautiful.

anyway some people suffered from d heavy snow; roads were closed, no public transport, flights were delayed, some couldnt go to work = no pay, no electricity, short of food supply. so hopefully things will be better soon, for everyone.

ix. july, august - attended linguistics conference in athens, visited mizumi's house in aigio n flew to cappadocia n istanbul, turkey (longest visit! took me n dahlia about 3 weeks)

xii. november - my birthday, celebrated in leicester wit dearie kam

in conclusion, more fun than work hahaha

on sunday, we took d tube to arsenal to visit emirates stadium, my bro's fav team home-ground. i was so worried that we'd miss d tour but he was so relaxed. totally different characters. ya-la he didnt pay for d tickets, i did. ayyo menangisla kalu terlepas, bukan murah beb! anyway we managed to be there on time n after some briefings, d guide took us in. his explanations were good n he gave some funny comments too. so it was fun. had a lot of photos taken n after visiting d museum, we went back to city centre for lunch.
after lunch, we took d tube to tower bridge. zaki was obviously tired, he felt asleep on d tube all d way hehehe saw d tower exhibition so we decided to take a look. after buying d tickets, it turned out we had to walk up all d way to d tower! waaaa!!!! takai!! but since we've paid, might as well continue ek? surprisingly it was a good exhibition plus we got to see d aerial view of london from both sides of d tower n d bridges. so so so pretty despite d gloomy weather (london...biasa la)
went down to engine room n walked along river thames to d london bridge tube station. since we had had enough/ tired/ raining/ hungry, we went to victoria station for pre-dinner n finally took d coach around 6pm.
KENILWORTH
he slept d whole day n i was busy packing my bags to be sent home. next day took d afternoon coach to stansted n waited for him to board his flight.
he reached kuala lumpur on d next day, safely. thank God. i think d highlight of his trip was d stadium because i didnt mention anything until d last minute. it was funny to see him behaving like a kid, face all lit up n he was clapping his hands as we entered into d field area n sat on d players' seats. with all d photos around we could feel as if d players were there too..hehehe. he also enjoyed his visit to rome. d weather was also better there hahaha. well it was a good trip for him, an eye-opener since this waas his first over-sea adventure. i was so happy to spend time with him n now, i miss him :(( waaaaa!!!!!!

so saturday morning we took d coach to london. stopped by mcd for pre-lunch hehehe n after that we walked to buckingham palace, trafalgar square, n london eye. saw d sea-life exhibition at d sea life london aquarium so we went in. i've passed by d aquarium many times but this was my 1st visit. it was biiiig inside n very2 interesting :))

then walked pass d parliment n went to msd to check-in.
after that went out again to madame tussauds. i was expecting that there'd be less people n i was sooo right! hehehe we could buy d tickets straight-away. when i came with dahlia last year, we queued for 2 hours! anyway i paid for one person coz it was buy1, free1 promotion. as we went in i could see that some figures were moved out n some were added..
my favourite...robert downey jr as sherlock holmes hmm..yummy n of course, gary barlow :)) suki desu!!!
n i went to sleep happily....

Day 4
today would b our last day in rome so we just went around to look for anything cheap to buy hehehe took d metro to piazza barberini coz i want to buy d hard-rock cafe shirt. went there. d salesboy was as annoying as i could remember. anyway size 'm' was sold out so that's it. didnt feel like buying anything else coz i really hate that salesboy's attitude. baka! huahahaha
our flight was later in d evening so we went back to termini, had lunch n took our bags from d hotel reception. took d train to airport n while waiting for our flight, walked around in d terminal. sooo many shops...aaaa so tempting! but i didnt buy anything. my bag was packed already. later boarding n back to uk at night...

next day, zaki wanted to continue sleeping so i went to d uni to see my supervisor who's clearning her office. made some arrngements wit her for our meetings in d future. may b at d library. i'm really sorry to see her going off because she's very good in her work, i'm not saying this as a supervisee but as her previous student. her comments are very constructive n motivating. will miss seeing her around :(
ROME, ITALY
Day 3
had breakfast at d usual cafe. we had discount coupon from d hotel so it was just 2euro per person; bread, croissant, yogurt, jam, butter n hot drink. a lot for 2euro. gooood :)
since we've toured on d red-line bus yesterday, we took d blue-line bus today n d 1st stop was basilica s.maria maggiore. didnt really know its significant. saw a number of people going in n coming out. i guess it's still being used as a church then.
checking out d pigeons..our main agenda today was to visit d vatican city. isnt it d only state within a state in this world? it's always crowded as many pilgrims visit it every day n on wednesday d pope addresses a public audience at 10am. since we arrived later we managed to avoid d crowds.
i remember watching dan brown's angels n demons movie which took place in vatican so i though that d square would b massive but having stepped on d real ground, it wasnt that wide. plus not that many people so we could see d whole area. we didnt visit d museum, however. my housemate kept saying "oh u should. it's very interesting. great collections of arts n everything." well, it may be interesting but i'm not interested. that's it.
after speding some time walking around st peter's square, we boarded d bus to go to d pantheon. one d way, passed by d castel sant' angelo. still within d state of vatican. has had many roles; fortress, citadel, prison etc. it was also one of d movie shooting locations.
next stop was d pantheon; d best preserved building of ancient rome. built in ad 118-125. d whole thing really looks ancient. used to be a temple n later a church (i think). i guess some of its attractions are d dome n d tomb of raphael. (yup, was in d movie too)
d pantheon is located near piazza navona so we crossed d road n walked there. since there were a lot of stalls there, we couldnt really see d whole picture. lots of souvenirs sold, as usual.

d last stop (supposessedly) that day was fontana di trevi. so boarded d bus again n when we reached d place, we stopped by some souvenir shops. i bought some caps for my nephews (he had a lot of t-shirts already) n also some mufflers for myself. didnt plan on buying more than necessary :p
fontana di trevi; baroque style built in 1732. customary is to throw a coin into d fountain over ur shoulder while facing away to ensure ur return to rome. i took this pic in 2006 n came again this year. did i throw d coin in 2006? no...
but 3 years later...
zaki looked tired already so we decided to go back 2 termini for dinner. but whilst waiting for d busr, i saw d signpost "piazza di spagna" across d road. i've always wanted to see d spanish steps since it looks so spectacular in photos. we walked towards d piazza n guess what...it was not like what 've imagined at all. couldnt take nice photos. it was glaring (afternoon sun) n traffic n etc.

boat-shaped fountain of d barcacciaso just spent a few minutes there n walked back to d bus stop. waited for 30mins for d bus n boarded it n on d way back to d termini, dropped by our restaurant for dinner n zzzz....

day 2
continuation of d guided tour so we went to colosseum again to meet d guide. this time he took us to roman forum where was once d centre for commerce, politic n religions of ancient rome n d palatine hill where romulus suppossedly founded rome. it was drizzling n d sky was cloudy so not many picts taken. no mood :p

arch of titus ; built in ad 81 - there were reliefs showing how soldiers sacking jerusalem's holy of holies n sacred objects like golden menorah. adolf hitler took a photo underneath d arch, when he visited mussolini. so ur not supposed to do d same thing - might offend someone or sometwo...but i find this one amusing, a pigeon replacing d head? nande kore??
anyway, finished d tour so we went back to termini for lunch n boarded d sight-seeing bus. got discount as usual, when we showed them d bus ticket in athens. n it was valid for 2 days. very2 jimat :)

ROME, ITALY
day 1
went home n packed a few things n we went to d bus station around 7pm. it took about 3 hours to reach gatwick n of course had to spend d night at d airport coz our flight was at 6.20am. i couldnt sleep at all coz i) it was not comfortable to sleep on d bench occupied by others, ii) we might oversleep! but someone managed to squeeze in...

so it was not that cheap. anyway it was convenient. that's why i chose it. after lunch we headed to colleseum. what was his comment when he saw it? "la... i thought it'd be bigger" sounds familiar right? hehehe i told him earlier not to have high expectation. i've been to
n took a walk around d area. there was d arch of constantine; erected in ad315 to celebrate his victory over maxentius.

since d forum was closed, it was around 4pm, we walked along d main road all d way to momumento vittorio emanuele ii; built to commemorate italian unification so d pillars at d back represented d counties. it was already dark n rainy so d pict was not really great :(
most italians refer to it as 'typewriter' coz of its apperance. cant really see d shape from d above pict, can u? but i managed to get this one when i first visited rome in 2oo6 n it was sunny :) see...
n finally went back to hotel to zzzzzz.....

next day, i took him to stratford. typical english teachers :) went to shakespeare's house n his other houses. not much difference except that this time we went to d church to see his grave.
n met this "poet" who recited "sonnet 18" to all visitors

so where did we go? hmm...first stop was stonehenge. he was lucky coz kam was around at that time n drove us all d way to salisbury. what was his comment when he saw it? "la...i thought it'd be bigger" hehehe n that was after 4 hours of driving from leicester. we only spent about 30mins before kam freezed hahaha it was sooooo windy n definitely cold!

next day went back to coventry n later to warwick castle. it was good having ur family member wit u especially when it's ur little brother coz u can always boss him around hehehe anyway he enjoyed visiting d castle n this time i went up d tower, again. it was not that scary anymore (i was claustophobic) coz they put up some lights along d spiral stairs. about time!!

back-dated to wednesday 18 nov. previously received an email from d office, saying that there’ll b a group meeting on wed n they’ll discussing a study related to this group of Malaysian tesl students who are now in their year 1. so of course la wa went 2 uni earlier coz d email said something like “will any Malaysian please join d meeting” ola? cakap la direct. wa sorang je Malaysian yg senior kat situ. iskh.. berlapik-lapik pulak. anyway went to see my tutor n he said that actually some tutors are interested in getting these students as research subjects oopss research participants n he was not really keen about it. so wa was not involved pun. ceh! luckily wa met him. if i had waited for d meeting, most probably i’ll arrive in
anyway wa got d 2pm bus so arrived there around 3.30pm. soooo hungry coz I only ate banana n drank coffee in d morning. met Kam on d way 2 city centre n we ate fried rice wit chicken masak pepper hehehe kat this Chinese restaurant. halal food is everywhere kat

that night, tgh syok layan this Japanese movie kat internet, tiba2 ada chocolate cake landing dpn laptop. la…bila masa dia pg downstairs ambik cake? nasib baik it was not so chocolaty. wa bukan makan sgt cake yg fancy2 ni. yg paling wa x suka – cheese cake n black forest. nasib Kam x buat surprise beli those. wa sanggup pi hantar balik kedai n bought donut je hahaha
got a nice card n of course a nice birthday present. balik umah today n got another nice card n presents from my housemates.wah…dah 3 kali sambut birthday kat sini. tahun depan x sempat kot. insyaAllah dah selamat siap everything by that time. cewah..macam la rajin sangat hahaha
